At Stichting Hoop voor Honden, the well-being of our dogs comes first. We are not just looking for a home, we are looking for the right home.
Therefore, we work with a careful adoption procedure.

1. First reaction:

Are you interested in one of our dogs?
In that case, we ask you to first fill out the short response form via the website.
In this first step, we would like to hear:
Which dog you are responding to
Why this particular dog appeals to you.
This is an initial selection; completing this form does not guarantee adoption.

2. Comprehensive intake:

If we see opportunities based on your response, you will receive a comprehensive intake questionnaire from us.
In this questionnaire, we ask about, among other things:

  • Your living situation
  • Work and living situation
  • Experience with dogs
  • Expectations and plans
  • Any other pets

This information helps us assess whether there could be a good match.

3. Screening:

After receipt and assessment of the intake, a personal screening follows.
This may consist of:

  • A telephone conversation
  • A home visit (via video call)via a video call)
  • Any additional questions

In doing so, we consider the safety, stability, and suitability of the living environment for the dog in question.

4. Introduction:

If the screening is positive, we will schedule an introduction to the dog.
Sometimes multiple introduction sessions are necessary to assess if there is a mutual connection.

5. Adoption and agreement:

Upon a definitive match:

  • Is an adoption agreement signed
  • Is the adoption fee being paid
  • Is the transfer taking place

From that moment on, you are officially the new owner and responsible for the dog.

6. Aftercare:

We remain involved even after the adoption.
We stay in touch via a group chat, where there is space to ask questions, share uncertainties, or discuss issues you are facing.
We are happy to think along with you and offer guidance where necessary.

In addition, we use short questionnaires to keep a clear picture of how our dogs are doing. These are sent approximately 3 weeks and 3 months after adoption and are completed by the adopter.
